Atlanta Hawks guard Kingston Flemings will sit out the team's upcoming matchup against the Indiana Pacers. The suspension means he will miss the contest scheduled for Monday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
The NBA issued the one-game suspension on Sunday. The discipline stems from an incident during the Hawks' 122-99 defeat by the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, October 31.
With three minutes and four seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, play stopped after a physical confrontation on the court. Flemings and Pelicans guard Bryce McGowens became involved in the scuffle.
Video reviews showed Flemings elbowed McGowens in the face while gathering for a layup. McGowens had blocked the shot just seconds before the contact occurred. After the block, McGowens shouldered Flemings as both players ran back on defense.
New Orleans head coach Will Ryan said the Pelicans' players were 'very disappointed' with the outcome. 'We are all disappointed for the game we made in it. Really, it is a loss we made for ourselves,' Ryan said. 'I am not really that upset about that. We are really disappointed about the incident, after Flemings.'
The Hawks' next game after Monday is a Wednesday contest. The team returns to the road on that date.
