Georgia beat No. 17 Florida 27-8 last Saturday, but the final score obscured a persistent problem on offense. The No. 3 Bulldogs managed only 318 total yards against a unit that allows the 121st most passing yards in the nation. While the defense forced four turnovers, including one scoop-and-score and two short fields that yielded 10 points, the offense struggled to move the ball on its own.

The passing game remains the primary concern. Quarterback Gunner Stockton completed 13 of 23 passes for 101 yards. Florida’s secondary ranked 13th in the SEC and 126th in passing success rate entering the contest, making the lack of production notable. Freshman Craig Dandridge led all receivers with 39 yards, though 32 of those came on the game’s longest pass. The running game found consistency in the second half, allowing Georgia to control the clock despite the aerial struggles.

Head coach Kirby Smart acknowledged the gap in performance during a postgame interview. He praised Stockton for his willingness to run the ball but admitted the team left points on the field. “We missed some throws,” Smart said. “We left some points out there. We gotta get better.”

Upcoming opponents present a stiffer test for Georgia’s secondary. The Bulldogs face Ole Miss, Missouri, and South Carolina over the next three weeks. Those teams feature quarterbacks Trinidad Chambliss, Austin Simmons, and LaNorris Sellers, respectively. All three opponents have the talent to score against a top-tier defense. If one of these quarterbacks forces a higher-scoring game, Georgia’s offense will need to answer.

Stockton has shown flashes of brilliance this season. He threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns against Vanderbilt and made difficult throws during the road victory over Alabama. However, mistakes continue to cost the team. In the loss to Auburn, Stockton played well for most of the game but threw three turnovers that allowed the Tigers to win in Athens.

Georgia’s receiving corps lacks consistent playmakers. Dandridge leads the team with 20 receptions for 349 yards. The tight end group, which includes Lawson Luckie with 12 catches for 197 yards and two touchdowns, has not emerged as a reliable threat in the passing attack. The defense has proven capable of holding back talented quarterbacks, as seen in previous matchups. But if Georgia aims for the national championship, the passing attack must elevate its performance when it faces potent offenses later in the season.

Stockton and his receivers will need to generate more big plays to support the team’s title hopes. The current level of production is not enough to guarantee success against elite defenses in the postseason. The offense must become more efficient in the air before the next challenge arrives.
