The Houston Astros have hired Randy Flores as their new general manager, the team announced Friday. Flores, 51, becomes the 15th person to hold the position in franchise history. He had served as the St. Louis Cardinals' assistant general manager of amateur and professional acquisition.

The move follows a series of front office changes in Houston. Dana Brown was let go on Aug. 24 with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Three assistant general managers and special adviser Jeff Bagwell assumed his duties for the remainder of the year while owner Jim Crane sought a replacement. Flores replaces Brown in the role.

Flores joined the Cardinals' front office in 2015 as director of scouting. He spent eight seasons, from 2019 through 2026, working as an assistant general manager with the club.

"Randy has had a huge impact on the Cardinals over the last 10 seasons," Crane said in a statement. "Throughout the entire interview process we've been thoroughly impressed with Randy and his background in scouting and player acquisition."

Before his front office career, Flores pitched in the majors for eight seasons from 2002 through 2010. The left-hander posted an 11-5 record with a 4.61 ERA and four saves across 347 relief appearances and three starts for Texas, Colorado, St. Louis, and Minnesota.

The Astros finished the season 81-81, winning the AL West for the fifth time in six years. The club became the first team without a winning record to reach the playoffs in a non-shortened season. Houston was then swept by the Chicago White Sox in the Wild Card Series, and Joe Espada's contract was not renewed. The team still needs to hire a manager this offseason.

Flores is scheduled to be introduced at a news conference Monday morning at Daikin Park. "I am excited and grateful for this amazing opportunity," Flores said. "The Astros have a long winning tradition under Jim Crane and I look forward to contributing to the success. My family and I are excited to make Houston home."
