The Philadelphia Union finished sixth in the Eastern Conference after falling 1-0 to FC Cincinnati on Saturday. The result was the second loss in their last four matches, a stretch that included two draws. The team remains in the same position most observers predicted once the schedule intensified in late October.

Injury and suspension issues contributed to the recent dip in results. Milan Iloski and Cavan Sullivan both left the lineup due to injury. At the same time, Bruno Damiani and Danley Jean Jacques sat out due to yellow card accumulation. Interim manager Ryan Richter believes the squad maintained its competitive edge despite these absences.

Richter stated that his team played better soccer than the host club. He noted that the Union generated numerous scoring opportunities on the road. The players put energy into the contest, he said, even though they left the field without a point. The manager emphasized that continued strong performance should lead to future success.

Cincinnati's only goal came from a play that exposed a defensive lapse. Star playmaker Evander drove past four Union defenders who failed to close him down. Richter acknowledged the need to tighten up marking around the goal area. He warned that top attacking midfielders will punish such gaps in play.

Several Union players missed clear chances to equalize. Agustín Anello turned a shot directly at goalkeeper Roman Celentano. Bruno Damiani headed the ball off the crossbar. Nathan Harriel forced a close-range save from Celentano in the 21st minute. Quinn Sullivan has now gone seven games without a goal or assist, with starts in four of those appearances.

The Union face Toronto FC on Saturday at 4 p.m. on Apple TV. A victory would secure the sixth seed in the conference. A draw would keep them out of the wild card round. Toronto has already been eliminated from the playoffs following a 3-1 loss to Atlanta. Richter expects Iloski to be fit for that match and believes the team is in a strong position for the postseason.

The manager said the team needs to get players back on the field and healthy. He expressed confidence in the squad's ability to perform with its strongest lineup. The Union will aim to convert road dominance into wins as the regular season concludes.
