Paul Pelosi, 86, will not drive for six months following a plea deal for a hit-and-run crash in Napa County. The driving ban represents the maximum duration permitted under the agreement. He also received one year of probation.
Napa County Superior Court Judge Scott R.L. Young approved the plea agreement on Wednesday. Pelosi pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge and an infraction for making an unlawful turn. The incident occurred in July in Yountsville.
According to the criminal complaint, Pelosi was driving a brown Maserati convertible when it struck an unoccupied Tesla parked at the side of the road. Police reported that witnesses saw the convertible stop briefly before driving away. No injuries were reported, and the parked vehicle was empty at the time of the impact.
The court ordered Pelosi to complete a 10-day work program and pay fines. He paid approximately $11,200 in restitution to the owner of the damaged Tesla as part of the settlement. The Napa County District Attorney's Office noted that prosecutors rarely issue statements for misdemeanor hit-and-run cases involving only property damage. They cited public interest in this specific case as the reason for the release.
Court records reviewed by the New York Times show Pelosi has accumulated at least eight driving violations over the past decade. These include citations for speeding, running red lights, and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. In 2022, he pleaded guilty to driving under the influence after crashing his Porsche into an oncoming Jeep. That sentence included a fine, five days in jail, and three years of probation.
The plea agreement marks the formal resolution of the July incident. Pelosi will remain on probation for one year. His driving restriction expires in six months.
