Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., returned to Minneapolis on Friday to cast an early ballot, marking her first public appearance in nearly two weeks. The visit followed an Oct. 12, 2026, search of her Washington, D.C., home by Homeland Security Investigations agents. The timing of her return coincided with the start of early voting in Minnesota.

Omar posted a video to X later that day, captioned, "Less scrolling, more strolling. Enjoying our beautiful Minnesota lakes." The clip shows her walking on a dock with her husband, Tim Mynett, amid fall foliage. The pair smiled, chatted, and posed for the camera while Omar held a coffee cup. The video concludes with a montage of images from the walk. It is unclear when the footage was filmed.

The audio track for the video is the Somali hip-hop song "Nimaan Ciilayba Icaaya" by Ilkacase Qays, a U.S.-based Somali singer and rapper. The lyrics, translated by Fox News Digital, boast of power and the scattering of enemies. One line states, "No enemy dares threaten me, wherever I step, they scatter." Another asserts, "If I draw on it late in the afternoon, by evening, I will have taught you a lesson."

The song features Somali singer Hodan Abdirahman. A cultural analysis described the track as a powerful example of Somali lyrical poetry built around pride, bravery, and personal dignity. The analysis noted that the artist uses exaggerated imagery to ridicule opponents, portraying them as people who lose sleep and seek supernatural help out of desperation. The lyrics include the line, "You howl like a demon through the night, because you cannot match me!"

Omar, whose birth name is Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, had been out of the public eye since the federal raid. During the Oct. 12 search, agents confiscated her passport and cellphone. Her sister, Sahra Noor, was interviewed by federal investigators following the raid. Federal agents also obtained Omar's DNA, according to previous reports by Fox News.

The investigation focuses on potential fraud related to immigration paperwork filled out by Omar or her father during her naturalization process. Homeland Security Investigations serves as the main investigatory agency for the Department of Homeland Security. If fraud is proven, Omar could be denaturalized, according to border czar Tom Homan, who made the statement last week.

On Friday, media outlets followed Omar closely as she voted alongside state Attorney General Keith Ellison at a Minneapolis polling place. The pair then visited the Karmel Mall of Somalia in Minneapolis, where they had lunch with members of the Somali community and posed for photographs.

Omar restricted who could respond directly to her social media post. The only publicly facing comment came from former U.S. House member Cori Bush, who wrote, "We love this."
