Heidi Klum appeared as a giant severed hand at her annual Halloween party in New York on Saturday. The event marked the 25th year of the tradition, which has become a staple of the city's fall social calendar. Klum's costume obscured her entire body, leaving only her eyes and mouth visible. Blood dripped from her mouth as she extended her tongue, while the top of the hand displayed dangling ligaments and tendons.
The concept originated last year when Klum considered fitting her body inside a large hand. She chose to represent her left hand, complete with long red nails, a thumb ring, and her engagement and wedding bands. "I looked at my hand and I thought, 'Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,'" Klum said. The look was supported by a team of helpers wearing blood-stained hazmat suits.
The preparation process took considerable time. Klum noted that it required about five to six hours to apply the prosthetics and enter the costume. She shared updates on Instagram earlier in the day, showing the application of bloodied effects to her face. "Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it," she said. "It's quite heavy."
Klum has established a reputation for elaborate costumes over the past two decades. Recent outfits include a werewolf from Michael Jackson's "Thriller," a peacock, and the Greek mythological figure Medusa. In 2022, she arrived at the party attached to a fishing line while wearing a slithering worm costume.
Her husband, musician Tom Kaulitz, did not attend the party this year due to his touring schedule. However, his presence was integrated into the design. The costume included a tattoo of his name on Klum's ring finger, alongside her palm lines and veins. "A little bit of Tom is with me," Klum said.
