Fair Oaks Mall will host two free public events on Saturday, October 31, marking the launch of a new children's play area and the start of its seasonal holiday programming.
The grand opening for the playground, located near the JCPenney store, runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The celebration includes a costume contest, prize giveaways, and a DJ playing family-oriented music. The venue features a design meant to mimic an outdoor environment. Equipment includes brown structures shaped like acorns for toddlers to climb, a slide resembling a tree trunk, and a balance beam styled as a log resting on stumps. Large leaf patterns cover the carpets, and a dedicated seating area is provided for adults.
The playground opened to the public earlier this month. Olshan Properties, the mall's owner, describes the space as part of a strategy to add amenities that attract families. Christie Morgan, the mall's general manager, stated in a press release that the area is an investment in creating meaningful experiences for the community. She noted that the mall has long served as a gathering place where residents connect.
Following the afternoon celebration, the mall's annual "Mall-O-Ween" event begins at 5 p.m. and continues until 8 p.m. Participating stores will offer trick-or-treating during this three-hour window. Both the playground opening and the evening festivities are open to the public at no cost.
The new play space is part of a recent series of retail additions aimed at family shoppers. Toys R Us has opened a location at the mall as part of a national expansion, replacing the Go! Toys and Games store. Slime Co, a build-your-own slime bar, also opened this fall. It is situated next to Urban Planet, a clothing retailer associated with Charlotte Russe, which opened recently.
Additional entertainment is scheduled for late November. Cirque Italia’s "Water Circus Atlantis" will return to the mall on Friday, November 6. The performance series will run through the weekend, following its initial visit to the location this summer.
