One hundred and thirteen drones were intercepted over the Voronezh region during the night of October 25 and 26. The large-scale air defense engagement followed a coordinated strike on industrial facilities, including the Voronezh Aircraft Production Association, known as VASO. The Voronezhsintezkauchuk rubber plant, part of the Sibur group, was also a primary target.
Ukrainian OSINT channels Supernova+ and Exilenova+ identified the specific sites hit early in the morning. VASO, a division of the Ilyushin Aviation Complex within the United Aircraft Corporation, manufactures components for the Ilyushin Il-96 jet airliner. The rubber facility produces synthetic rubbers and polymer materials. Both plants are key to Russia's military and economic infrastructure.
Governor Aleksandr Gusev confirmed fires at multiple industrial businesses to Interfax. He did not initially name the companies in his official statement. Gusev described the incidents as occurring without significant consequences. This assessment contrasts with the extensive damage reported by local media and observers.
The governor stated that air defense units downed more than 70 drones directly over the city. The total count reached 113 when including the wider urban area and several districts of the Oblast. This volume indicates a massive coordinated launch aimed at saturating the air defense systems.
Russian media outlet Astra reported specific impact locations. A drone hit the Galereya Chizhova business centre at 35A Koltsovskaya Street, with video of the explosion captured. Explosion sites were also identified near residential buildings on 52A 25th Yanvarya Street and 4K Arkhitektora Troitskovo Street. Damage was documented at the Uritsky residential complex on 135 Uritskovo Street.
A car park on 275/1 45th Strelkovoy Divizii Street saw at least ten cars caught in flames. Fires also started in a business centre, an apartment building, two dacha settlements, a school stadium, and a garage cooperative. Gusev noted that damage to building facades and windows was recorded in nearly every district of the city.
Residents of Voronezh reported hearing explosions and the sounds of air defense operations for over an hour. The city was reportedly shrouded in smoke throughout the engagement. No formal air-raid warning had been issued prior to the strikes. Local authorities are currently assessing the full extent of the damage to public and private property.
