Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy is recovering at Johns Hopkins Hospital following a stroke that occurred on Saturday, October 31.
Allison Herwitt, Murphy's chief of staff, said the senator felt numbness in his arm while watching his son play hockey. Medical staff first treated him at a local facility before moving him to the Baltimore hospital for closer observation.
Herwitt told Axios that medical professionals are pleased with his current condition. She noted that Murphy is awake and alert and expressed confidence that he will make a complete recovery.
Murphy has served in the U.S. Senate since 2013. He is widely recognized for his work on gun reform legislation following the Sandy Hook school shooting. The senator has also maintained an active role in foreign policy debates and recently traveled to Michigan and Florida to support candidates in the current midterm cycle.
Political observers view Murphy as a potential contender for the 2028 presidential race. His hospitalization has drawn parallels to other members of Congress who have managed health issues while serving, including former Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senator Chris Van Hollen.
His office continues to monitor his recovery as he prepares to return to his legislative duties.
